Blists Hill Victorian Town Visit

On a sunny day in June, the whole of year 9 set off for an outdoor educational experience to Blists Hill Victorian Town in Telford.

Our visit began at the Bank, where students had the choice to change spending money into old pennies, and quickly moved onto the Pharmacy that smelt strongly of carbolic soap.

A few students wandered into the Draper’s shop and were shocked to find out that young boys wore corsets as well as girls (to keep warm)!

Some went to talk to the Plasterer, others walked into the Candle Factory to learn about Candle Dipping and the rest of the group headed off to explore many other late Victorian buildings around the site.

A teacher had wisely brought a football for a relaxing kick about, another managed to find a wonderful picnic spot.

We purchased fish and chips from the traditional chip shop and we all enjoyed our picnic in the sunshine. After lunch everyone headed to the zip wire and the trip ended with a quick visit to the Victorian School where a teacher got the cane!

It was a grand day out and year 9 students should be proud of the excellent attitude shown throughout the day.

Thank you to the staff who supported the trip but most of all thanks to Year 9 who did Solihull Academy proud!
